How to choose an armored vehicle according to your needs.
This is the basic starting question before purchasing an armored vehicle.
On a daily basis, individuals, organizations and companies operating in hostile environments have to deal with the security problems of their own and their personnel. One of the most challenging tasks is how to carry out secure transportation of personnel and cargo from one location to another in areas where hijackers, snipers, grenades, mines and incidental attacks is part of the daily agenda.
To identify what armor level you require in order to be well protected in your vehicle, start with a personal security question: Are you vulnerable to carjacking, robbery, kidnapping, assassination attempt, or all of them? Examine your personal needs based on circumstances and location. An executive on a business trip to a dangerous country does not need the same amount of armoring as a local VIP.
Ballistics: “The projectiles in flight science.” In this case a bullet and you
need to know if your car armor can stop it? At first, decide what is the weapon of choice that might be used against you. (in most instances, carjackers tend to use low-caliber handguns, while kidnappers favor assault rifles like the AK47) BUY THE RIGHT LEVEL ARMOR FOR THE TREATH YOU WILL POTENCIALLY FACE. It is not as easy as it sounds.
Manufacturers rate a given material's ability to withstand ballistic impact according to different standards, also their own. Always mention the weapon that you need protection against and ask for independent test reports to ensure the materials used are up to the protection level required.
Durability: Most armored cars are added a heavy load of armoring materials to an existing vehicle. Even the latest products in armoring materials are heavy and have a negative impact on a vehicle's suspension, braking and transmission systems. Schedule shorter service intervals to keep the car in optimal mechanical conditions. Availability of specialty parts is also critical.
Protection against explosive munitions like pipe bombs and hand grenades are increasingly popular in many countries, such as Nigeria, Iraq, Afghanistan. If you're concerned about this type of threat, buy a car with an armored floor, roof, pillar posts, and window overlaps.
Whether you're buying from a small outfit or a large international corporation, visit the factory before purchasing an armored car. On site check the workmanship, material quality, design and assembly. Do not be afraid to ask questions.
